Funding

The main works on the building are the repair of the roof and tower and the reordering of the interior to give the Church a sustainable future.

The principal funder for large scale Church repairs and reordering is the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). NLHF have four investment principles

  • Saving heritage
  • Protecting the environment
  • Inclusion, access and participation
  • Organisational sustainability

All projects must address all four principles. Projects will address the capital work but will also be expected to include non capital work such as training, interpretation and other activities that support providing a sustainable future.

NLHF have a three stage application approach.

Stage 1 – Expression of Interest (EOI)

NLHF use the EOI to ascertain that you have a potentially viable project prior to committing work into a detailed development application. Our Expression of Interest was accepted on 11th July 2025 and we have now 12 months to submit a development application.

Stage 2 – Development Application

The Development Application is for funding to undertake all the development work associated with the project including undertaking detailed design of the repair and reordering, obtaining quotations and tenders, and having everything in place ready to start delivery works (construction, activities etc).

Stage 3 – Delivery Application

The Delivery Phase is where the major works take place.

Whilst the National Lottery Heritage Fund will contribute substantially to the works, we will still need to raise other funds to support the work. These will come from a number of sources including

  • Fund raising from events
  • Grants from other organisations
  • Donations
  • Church collections
  • Other
